The National Scientific and Technological Development Fund (El Fondo Nacional de Desarrollo Científico y Tecnológico - FONDECYT), is a publicly administered program of the National Commision of Scientific and Technological Research (Comisión Nacional de Investigación, Científica y Tecnológica - CONICYT). It was created in 1981 and focuses on the different types of Chilean State funds used as criteria in the assignment of resources to the areas of higher education, scientific and technological development.


The program is made up of four sources. that finance basic research and apply to all areas of knowledge.


Finances competitive initiatives presented by researchers with a demonstrated trajectory, regardless of the area or insitutional origin.


Initiation in Research
The objective of this competition is to foment and strengthen scientific and technological development of excellence through promotion of new researchers, and by means of project financing from 2 to 4 years in all subject areas.


Post Doctorate
The objective is to stimulate the productivity and scientific independence of researchers that have obtained a doctorate degree in the last three years allowing them exclusive dedication to research.


Incentive towards International Cooperation
Its objective is to reinforce the regular FONDECYT projects and initiation of current research through the participation by researchers in Chile and those residing abroad.
