Postdoc Initiative

DCC Postdoc Initiative – 2026 Call for Applications

The Department of Computer Science (DCC) of the Universidad de Chile invites researchers to apply to its Postdoc Initiative. Positions are funded directly by the DCC and are open to both internal and external candidates.

What does the initiative fund?

The DCC can fund up to two simultaneous postdocs. Each postdoc receives an annual gross salary of CLP$32,284,000 and an annual operational budget of CLP$3,000,000. The appointment lasts one year, with the possibility of renewal for one additional year.

Eligibility

Any researcher who has obtained their doctoral degree before the application deadline of the cycle they are applying to is eligible. The call is open to both internal and external candidates.

How to apply

Applications must be submitted through a sponsoring DCC full-time faculty member (AJC), who acts as project supervisor and institutional sponsor. Interested candidates should contact one or several DCC faculty directly to explore potential collaborations. The candidate is responsible for preparing and submitting the application; the sponsoring AJC(s) provide a support letter and formally back the mandatory application to external funding.

What we look for

The Committee evaluates applications based on:

  • The candidate's academic excellence.
  • The proposal's potential to generate or strengthen collaborations among DCC faculty, or to open new research areas at the DCC.
  • The strategic relevance of the research area for the department.
  • Concrete commitments to contribute to the DCC, such as student supervision or graduate teaching.
  • Thematic and sponsor diversity relative to already funded postdocs, as a criterion of equity across subareas.

Optionally, contributions to knowledge transfer and outreach.

Execution conditions

The postdoc will carry out their work in person or in a hybrid modality at the DCC, residing in Santiago or its surroundings, and will publish with DCC affiliation. They must apply to available external funding sources (ANID or others) with the formal backing of their supervising AJC(s).

Evaluation at the end of the first year

During the tenth month of the first year, the postdoctoral researcher must submit a progress report, a work plan for the second year, and documentation of external funding applications submitted. The supervising AJC(s) must also submit a brief assessment letter. The Committee will evaluate these materials to determine whether to renew. Only one renewal, for one additional year, is allowed.

Call timeline

The call will open soon. Opening and evaluation-cycle dates will be announced shortly.

If you're interested, please contact the AJC(s) you'd like to work with to discuss potential projects and sponsorship before the formal opening.
