Abstract:

This talk will review the most significant highlights of the research carried out at DAMA-UPC in the recent months. We will take a look at how Sperksee, the high performance Graph Database has been implemented, and how different technologies have been created around it to grow its capabilities both in terms of new DB functionalities and in terms of new applications being developped. We will take an overview of the Architecture of Sparksee, the ideas behind SCD (the Scalable Community Detection, fastest and most accurate community detection algorithm up to date), Tweeticer (the new tool for understanding the impact of Tweets in Twitter), benchmarking of Graph technologies and other software that has been in production over the last year, leading to three FP7 European Commission funded projects that the group, in collaboration with its Spin out Sparsity Technologies (www.sparsity-technologies.com), are managing at this moment.

About the speaker:

Josep L. Larriba-Pey is the director of DAMA-UPC (www.dama.upc.edu) at Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya in Barcelona. The group has been working on the management of data since its beginning in 1999 and specialised on Graph Management starting in 2006. Since then, DAMA-UPC has endevoured many projects with different companies like IBM, Media Planning, CA Technologies and Oracle, among others, in the areas of technologies and applications for Graph Management, as well as Benchmarking. The group has created a Spin out based on its Graph Management Technology, Sparksee named Sparsity Technologies (www.sparsity-technologies.com), and it is involved in three different European Commission funded projects, namely LDBC (www.ldbc.eu), CoherentPaaS (www.coherentpaas.eu) and Tetracom (www.tetracom.eu).
