Abstract: McAfee Labs is the global research team of McAfee, Inc. With the only research organization devoted to all threat vectors— malware, web, email, network, and vulnerabilities—McAfee Labs gathers intelligence from its millions of. McAfee Labs’ 350 multidisciplinary researchers in 30 countries follow the complete range of threats in real time, identifying application vulnerabilities, analyzing and correlating risks, and enabling instant remediation to protect enterprises and the public. Hiep Dang will give insight into the world of McAfee Labs, the evolving threat landscape, and how you can make a difference in protecting the world against the bad guys.

 

Hiep Dang Bio:

Hiep Dang is the Director of Operations for McAfee Labs. He is currently in charge of opening a new research & development center in Santiago, Chile, which will become one of the strategic Centers of Excellence for McAfee Labs’ global organization.

 

Previously, Dang was in charge of McAfee’s globally distributed team of malware researchers, who are dedicated to research, analysis, and the response to malware outbreaks, including viruses, worms, Trojans, bots, and spyware. Dang is a regular contributor to the McAfee Avert Labs Blog, whitepapers, and the McAfee Security Journal, and often discusses new threats and trends of malware with the press. He has been interviewed by the Wall Street Journal, MSNBC, PC Magazine, and many other publications and media outlets.

 

Dang is a strong advocate of user education and computer security awareness in the general public. In coordination with U.S. Secret Service, the University of Central Florida, and local law enforcement, he helped found the Digital Knights program, which enabled kids, parents, and teachers to become aware of Internet dangers such as cyberbullying, cyberstalking, child predators, identity theft, and fraud. Dang has worked with the National Network to End Domestic Violence to help provide social workers and survivors with the awareness they need to deal with the threat of spyware, keyloggers, and other surveillance software.

 

Dang is a graduate of the University of Central Florida with a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science. His formal education, focused on computer forensics, has laid the foundation for his career in the computer security industry. Prior to working at McAfee, he was the Director of Threat Research & Engineering at Aluria Software, an EarthLink company.
