Resumen: Old systems conceived in the 70s, or 80s constantly need to be adapted to new technologies like the Internet (in the 90s) or hand-held devices and the cloud (nowdays). This sometimes requires a complete restructuring of the systems that can be called re-architecturing. For decades, researchers have been trying to propose solutions to help re-structure a software system architecture to rejuvenate the system and allow it to evolve through new challenges and new technologies. I have been working in this field for 20 years and regularly review papers on this topic. In this presentation, I will propose my insight on this problem, why after all this time we still don't have a proper solution and what could be a more viable research path.

Nicolas Anquetil has a PhD in Computer Science from the University of Montreal Canada. He then worked in a number of other universities worldwide: research assistant and part-time professor at University of Ottawa, Canada; invited professor at Federal University of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil; associate professor at Catholic University of Brasilia, Brazil; research assistant at Ecole des Mines de Nantes, France; and, assistant professor at University of Lille-1, France. He is currently still teaching at University of Lille-1. He is member of the RMod research team at Inria Lille Nord-Europe and co-founder of the Synectique company. His research interests are centered around software maintenance.
